The 1st Team kicked-off pre-season with a healthy win away to Meridian Sports.

Saturday saw our newly strengthened 1st Team squad line-up for their first pre-season game, playing Meridian Sports away at the South London side’s Charlton Park Lane ground.

Phoenix got off to a flying start on what was a sweltering day, with Christie Pattison grabbing our first goal within 15 minutes of play.

This was quickly followed by another two goals before the half-time whistle. First new centre-forward signing Frankie Sawyer got his goal scoring off to a flying start making it 2-0 within 25 mins, and then winger Dajon Golding grabbed a third just 10 minutes later.

Manager Steve O’Boyle made four changes at half-time, bringing on two trialists for Christie and Dajon, as new signing Richard Seixas from Dartford, for Jack Hopkins, and Kweku Ansah, for Zak Bryon, also joined the field.

After just 10 minutes we netted another to make it 4-0, this time from our other new striker Jack Barham. Play continued to go in our favour, and after 60 mins there was three more changes as O’Boyle brought on another two trialists up front for Jack and Frankie, as well as Reserves player Tony Robinson, for centre-half James Fitchett.

As the 70th minute struck, the manager made his last couple of changes, giving youngster Eniye Amgbaduba a chance in defence, coming on for Ryan Andrews, along with a return to the pitch for James Fitchett, who came back on for Conrad Lee.

Finally substitute Eniye, who started last season in the U18’s, before quickly progressing to The Reserves and finished off the season on the 1st Team bench, making a couple of appearances, rounded off a fabulous afternoon netting our fifth and final goal right on the 90th minute – and what a screamer it was!

Manager Steve O’Boyle, said: “Overall it was a cracking performance and fantastic display for our first game of the season”.

While Assistant Manager, Paul Bryon added: “We were very pleased with the performance. We passed the ball well and had total control of the game at all times. We can take some massive positives from this opening match”.

The entire squad performed exceptionally well, with both of our new strikers notching up their first or what we hope to be many more goals. It was great to see Christie and Dajon also getting on the score sheet, and a great achievement for youngster Eniye.

All in all, a fab start to our pre-season campaign! Go Phoenix!

Tomorrow sees the squad face Vanarama National League South Side Welling United at home. Come on down and get behind the lads!
