Phoenix Sports Club aims to become a family club promoting:

  • Family First
  • Work Second
  • Rugby Third

For those of you who “live” for rugby, don't worry, you’ll find Phoenix the club for you. You can play rugby all year round and eventually there will be rugby for all genders, age groups and abilities both contact and non contact. The 1st XV have ambitious plans of becoming promoted to Glasgow West Division 1 this year.

Phoenix Sports Club started its existence in 2007 and since then has played two seasons of Rugby Union and Rugby League. We welcome everyone to join our club as social or playing members. Get involved! We actively encourage new ideas, volunteers, spectators or players.

RUGBY UNION

Phoenix play Rugby Union from August till April. We compete in Scottish Hydro Electric West Division 2 and were promoted in second place last season. We narrowly missed out to a run out at Murrayfield when we lost in the Quarter Finals of the SHE Plate competition to Aberdeen University. This year we will be introducing a second fifteen squad and aim to be promoted as Champions.

Rugby Union is a game played by 15 players including rucks, mauls, scrums and line outs.

RUGBY LEAGUE

Phoenix are one of 8 clubs that play in the co-operative Scottish Conference League. This is a participation league aimed at growing the sport of Rugby League in Scotland. Phoenix were the first Scottish Cross Code club to enter the leagues and are developing expecting to finish mid table this year.

Rugby League is played by 13 players and due to a breakaway in the North of England from Rugby Union removed flankers from the game and became a high impact collision sport. Dropping the "slow" parts of Union, League is excellent for developing fitness, one on one tackling skills and general ball handling. Phoenix aim to become the most developed Rugby League in Scotland providing Youth and Senior Mixed gender Rugby League Teams.
