Phoenix Sports 3-2 Guernsey
Bostik South East Division
A spirited display from Guernsey ultimately earned them nothing as a late Phoenix Sports winner meant they left the Mayplace Ground bound for Gatwick empty handed.
The visitors started well and almost took the lead in the 9th minute only for Carlos Canha to see his header come back off the post.
The hosts soon made them pay. A good run into the box from Kenny Aileru only ended when he was brought down by David Rihoy leaving Jeff Duah-Kessie to give his side the lead from the spot.
Not long after that he got his second. Played in by George Whitelock, Duah-Kessie cut back onto his right foot before drilling the ball home.
Jamie Dodd saw his hooked effort go close just before the break but his side went into the interval 2-0 down.
Guernsey had no choice but to throw everything forward in the second half and two quickfire goals around the hour mark brought them back on level terms.
Firstly, a cross from the left was headed home from close range by David Rihoy before a minute later a dangerous Dodd throw-in was poorly cleared leaving Thomas De La Mere to smash home it from the edge of the area.
That made it look like Guernsey would take home a worthy point but with 5 to play Jack Hopkins headed home an Ashley Probets corner to earn Phoenix the win and keep the islanders firmly in a relegation dogfight.
