A point each on a rainy day at the Mayplace

Phoenix led at the break but needed a late Jack Barry goal to earn a point on a miserable weather day at the Mayplace.

Whyteleafe shaded the chances in the first half hour without really testing Steve Phillips in th Phoenix goal. Lauris Chin and Eddie Dsane should have got closer to the target when shooting high and wide in that time and Matt O'Donoghue probably should have opened the scoring when connecting poorly with a Lauris Chin cross just before that half hour mark.

Then Phoenix found their way into the game. Jeff Duah-Kessie forced Tyler McCarthy into a good save and from the resulting corner Zak Bryon headed just over. Kweku Ansah was on the end of a flowing move but shot at the keeper when the best option was probably to play Alfie Aldridge in.

On 44 minutes we had the first goal of the games. Ashley Probets corners have been deadly all season, and were so again here as he swung the ball into the danger zone for Zak Bryon to superbly time his run and jump to head home. 1-0 to Phoenix!

At the start of the second half Phoenix so nearly doubled the lead immediately but Lee Bird shot inches wide following a good team move.

Phoenix then had a good spell of possession and created a few half chances but could not quite get that clear cut chance.

In the 72nd minute Whyteleafe got themselves back in the game. Kweku Ansah found himself in his own box and made a weak tackle attempt that left the referee with no choice but to point to the spot. Eddie Dsane converted and the game was level.

Almost immediately Phoenix thought they were back in front. The Whyteleafe keeper flapped at a cross while under pressure from Duah-Kessie leaving Conrad Lee to poke home the stray ball. Unfortunately the referee adjudged Jeff's pressure to have been a foul and the goal was chalked off. It looked a tough decision for the hosts.

With six minutes to play Whyeleafe looked to have nicked it. What looked to be a harmless ball into the box instead caused confusion at the back and with Phillips only able to get a poor punch away, Daniel Hector was in the right place at the right time to put the ball into the empty net.

With time running out Phoenix once again scored through their favourite route on goal. The inswinging corner came in and Danny Young headed back to Jack Barry who placed the ball into the bottom corner. 2-2.

Whyteleafe had one last chance before the final whistle went but were denied by the woodwork and the game ended level.

A draw was a fair result in what were very testing weather conditions.

Phoenix remian 3rd in the table with Whyteleafe in 5th.
