Bostik South East Division

Phoenix lost ground on a fellow play-off contender with a disappointing display at Church Road against Whyteleafe.

The game started with both teams looking focused and lively with Phoenix having a few early chances but Leafe also came close with Kelvin Ogboe having a good shot early on and indeed it was the home side that gradually upped the pace and took control of the proceedings from midway through the first half onwards.

The hosts took the lead in the 34th minute with Lauris Chin getting on the score sheet with a close range shot that Phoenix keeper Steve Phillips was not able to save.

Whyteleafe were now in control of the game as Phoenix were clearly not at the races today. With some fine performances throughout their side it was man of the match Valentino Carpene who got the second goal in the 52nd minute and there was no turning back for the Leafe who look to be real play-off contenders this season.

With the game drawing to a close Phoenix Midfielder Zak Byron was dismissed from the field of play in the 90th minute, quickly followed by Danny Young and Whyteleafe's Laurent Mendy in the final seconds of the game in what was a bad day at the office for our side.

Phoenix Sports stay in 9th position but can now look forward to a couple of matches against sides towards the bottom of the table. The last 3 games have been against contenders and overall 4 points from them is probably not too bad of a result.
