FA Cup First Qualifying Round

Saturday 8th September

FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round
Phoenix Sports v Lancing FC

We go again Tuesday after Lancing came from 2-0 down to draw and deny Phoenix a confirmed place in the next round.

Phoenix started the game well and had a few chances to open the scoring in the first half an hour with Alfie Aldridge, Jeff Duah-Kessie and Tony Robinson all coming close. The breakthrough came soon after though as Ashley Probets superbly supplied Duah-Kessie the opportunity to volley home, which the big man gladly took.

The hosts came flying out of the traps in the second half and quickly doubled the lead. Some superb work down the left by Jack Barry saw him break into the box where he pulled the ball back for Danny Young to smash home.

It could easily have been 3-0 soon after but Duah-Kessie couldn't quite find Aldridge when they were both bearing down on goal.

The visitors then had a great spell of play for the next 20 minutes which saw them firstly pull one back and then soon after, level the game. The second goal coming by way of overhead kick by Mike Williamson.

Lancing almost stole the game in the final minute but Steve Phillips was on hand to save superbly and see us make a trip to the seaside on Tuesday evening.
