Tommy Warrilow's tenure as Ashford United got off to a great start as his new side took all three points in an all-action game at Phoenix Sports.

The hosts should have taken the lead on 15 minutes but Alex Teniola could only direct his free header over the bar. They were to pay for that miss when the energetic Sam Corne got on the end of a peach of a Tom Carlse cross to give the visitors the lead after 26 minutes. Ashford had chances to increase that lead before the half-time whistle but Danny Parish failed to convert on more than one occassion. In the opening minutes of the second-half the former Thamesmead Town forward made up for those missed chances when he reacted quickest to slam home the ball when Steve Phillips could only parry a strong Stefan Cox drive. The goal of the game came soon after as Jeff Duah-Kessie danced his way through the Ashford defence before provide a stunning finish to get Phoenix back in the game. That set up a tense final half-hour in a match that the home side were beginning to dominate and they were to be handed the perfect opportunity to level it in the final minute when being awarded a penalty after a foul on Kweku Ansah. Stefan Cox saw red as he for his protestations to the decision before Sam Mott superbly saved Ashley Probets spot-kick. That was to be the last attack of an entertaining game of two halves where Ashford United claimed the win.
