Steve O'Boyle's squad nab 3 points away from home in their first league game of the season.

The Phoenix 1st Team emerged victorious in their first Bostik League South Division game of the season, beating Ramsgate FC 3-1 away from home.

After a shaky start, Phoenix found their stride in this first ever meeting between the two teams, and after 20 mins were piling on all of the pressure. Chances for both Dajon Golding and Frankie Sawyer almost gave us the edge.

And then after yet more pressure from Phoenix, a cross in from Golding was slotted home by Sawyer to give Phoenix the lead, much to the delight of the travelling fans.

GOAL: Ramsgate 0-1 Phoenix (Frankie Sawyer, 24 mins)

It appeared as though Phoenix took their foot off the gas slightly following this goal, and Ramsgate used this to their advantage, but a great save from Steve Phillips kept Phoenix ahead following a sustained period of pressure from The Rams.

However, moments from half-time a short corner by The Rams catches Phoenix on the hop, and following an initial save from Phillips, the ball ends up in the back of the net.

A lengthy conversation between Captain Steve Phillips, the referee, linesman and a few other Phoenix players followed over whether the shot had deflected off of a Ramsgate player standing in an offside position, something the Phoenix Captain felt strongly about. Although the officials disagreed and the goal stood.

HALF-TIME: Ramsgate 1-1 Phoenix

As the second half kicked off neither sides had made any substitutions at the break, and it was Ramsgate who came out fired up and ready to go. Phoenix were still clearly rattled by the late equaliser in the first half, and after 54mins defender Ashley Probets was booked.

YELLOW CARD: Ashley Probets (54mins)

Things continued to be a bit heated between the two sides, with Ramsgate edging the first few minutes of the game. Then a blistering run from Dajon Golding down the left resulted in the winger firing a shot into the back of the net, which was then deemed offside.

This incident sparked yet more animated chatter from the Phoenix dugout who felt they had been unfairly penalised. This seemed to reignite the spark in the boys in green, with Tony Robinson also firing off a shot from the opposite wing.

After 25 minutes in the second half played it was end to end stuff. Phoenix defender Ashley Probets appeared to pull up on the wing and had to be helped off of the pitch for further treatment, with Ryan Andrews replacing him in the 75th minute.

SUBSTITUTION for Phoenix: Ashley Probets OFF - Ryan Andrews ON (75mins)

But just 5 minutes later, a fabulous free-kick from Conrad Lee found the path of James Fitchett who slotted it home with ease to put Phoenix ahead.

GOAL: Ramsgate 1-2 Phoenix (James Fitchett, 80mins)

And then just 60 seconds later, Dajon Golding fired home to make it 1-3, and surely out of Ramsgate's reach.

GOAL: Ramsgate 1-3 Phoenix (Dajon Golding, 81mins)

SUBSTITUTION for Ramsgate: OFF Jake Munday, ON Tom Hickman (83mins)

There was a heart in mouth moment shortly after this substitution as a back head from a Phoenix defender found itself looping over Steve Phillips and heading towards goal, luckily it hit the crossbar and came out into the safe hands of Phillips.

In the 88th minute, Tony Robinson was brought down just outside the box, which resulted in Ramsgate's Jack Penny receiving a yellow card. Conrad Lee's free-kick this time is deflected off the wall.

As Phoenix make their second change of the game, the referee's assistant announces that there will be 4 minutes of extra time to play.

SUBSTITUTION for Phoenix: OFF Frankie Sawyer, ON Zak Bryon (89mins)

After a few minutes, Phoenix made their final change as Ramsgate make the most of the extra four minutes of play.

SUBSTITUITION for Phoenix: OFF Tony Robinson, ON Johnathon Miller-Annor (91mins)

A last minute save from Steve Phillips kept the score at 1-3 to Phoenix, rounding off a great afternoon, and a fantastic result for the boys in green.
