SCEFL First Division

10/11/18 - 3pm K.O

The Mayplace Ground

- Online Programme -

There was only one result this game could end really as neither side had kept a clean sheet and neither side had drawn a so far this Season. By providing us with a goalless game both them statistics were over but most importanlty it provided the Reserevs with the point that takes them off the bottom of the table.

It was a game of few clear cut chances and neither keeper was forced into any meaningful saves throughout the 90 minutes. Each team had half-chances but wasted them by firing high and wide, with all attackers guilty of missing the target on a few occassions.

There was a clear average age difference between the sides and Rochester tried to use their experience to their advantage by attempting to manipulate the Referee and Phoenix lads but to be fair neither was disadvantaged by it and the players gave as good as they got.

It is now a rest week for the Reserves before facing a Cup game away at Balham Reserves in two weeks time.

Phoenix have won their last two games at the Mayplace 4-1 so will be full of confidence when welcoming Rochester United to home soil. A point for the hosts could well be enough to lift them from a bottom but neither of these sides has managed a point so we will have to be breaking new ground for that to occur. After dropping down from the Premier Division, Rochester started this campaign poorly but have since found their feet and now sit in 14th place with games in hand on most sides around them. Yet to draw it seems it is all or nothing at the moment but as the First Division Season continues you would imagine they will settle into the pace of things at this level. Rochester recently progressed into the Second Round of the Kent Senior Trophy with an excellent win over Premier Division side Punjab United and will be looking to go as far as they can in that prestigious competition. Top scorer for the club is Max Morgan who has hit an impressive 8 goals so far and given half a chance today will be keen to add to that tally.
