Phoenix Sports Reserves 0-4 Holmesdale

With a quick look at the scoreline you would make the assumption that this was a one sided game dominated by the team that has continued their 100% start to the League Season. However until the final ten minutes this was a tight contest that could have gone either way with arguments that Phoenix were deserving of a first half lead.

The hosts started well and James Boughtflower saved well from both Lee Friend and Joe Smith in the early stages. Against the run of play the visitors took the lead though. Kieran Cole was found in space and charged down on Liam Rankin, sliding the ball past the advancing keeper to give Holmesdale a fortunate lead.

The second half was a fairly tight affair but with chances for either side. Malik Ouani wasted his when clean through and Friend should have done better on a few occassions. Oliver Andrews was performing well in the centre of Midfield and came closest when his effort came back off the bar.

Late in the game the visitors got on top and clinically finished the game off. Substitute Jo Jo Ogunbiyi twice bundled the ball home over the line and Ouani dispatched a well taken penalty to give it a 4-0 scoreline and put Ben Kotey and his team 2nd in the League.

The switch of teams from Sam Fitzgerald in the previous week was a key factor in the end result as his leadership of a young Phoenix defence may well have kept the scoreline down but more learning for this side and they now head towards a game at Kennington with another 90 minutes of Mens football in them.
