SCEFL First Division

Saturday 5th January

A much changed Phoenix Sports Reserves line-up failed to Gel and were beaten comfortably by the SCEFL First Division leaders Welling Town.

The visitors got off to a good start scoring early and then scored a second from a well taken free-kick.

Oliver Andrews was sent off before the break even though it was him thrown to the ground and trodden on, in what was one of many awful decisions by the referee and with him went any chances of a comeback. To add injury to insult Oli broke his hand during the assault on him.

A deflected free-kick and a penalty wrapped up the game for Welling who showed why they are top of their Division putting in a solid performance.

Our Reserves side do not have a game for another 2 weeks when they then go to Erith & Belvedere in the London Cup on a Sunday afternoon.

There was little change at the top of the First Division as the title contenders all won, keeping Welling Town leading the chasing pack by 7 points. The Boots were impressive 4-0 winners against a strong Phoenix Sports Reserves side, with Jordan Samuels getting the visitors off to the perfect early start. Bridon Ropes once again showed their attacking flair as they came from behind to beat Greenways 4-1 with Richard Jimoh scoring a hat-trick for the Ropes. Another man to hit three was Harry Harding as his Erith & Belvedere side also came from behind to get a 4-1 win. On the receiving end of the Deres quality was bottom placed Meridian VP, who have now lost 8 games in a row. The big game of the day went the way of Sutton Athletic as they came out best in a 5-goal thriller to leap over the visiting Holmesdale into 4th place. Arlie Desanges opened the scoring for Sutton with Chris McGinty and Conor Evans securing the win. Kennington completed a good day for the top 5 as they extended their unbeaten run to 9 games with a win over FC Elmstead at Homelands. The visitors had taken an early lead before goals from Tom Scorer and Josh Hastings secured the win for the 3rd placed hosts. Two new Management teams met at Glentworth Sports Club and ended up with a point each as Kent Football United rescued a point late on at home to Snodland Town. Dave Sherwood hit a brace for the visitors but the hosts are unbeaten in the League under Danny Wakeling and it remains that way thanks to late goals from Ahmed Dean and Pete Ojemen. Kameiko Pope-Campbell scored half of Forest Hill Park's six goals as they overcome Rochester United at the Ladywell Arena. Lee Roots' side hold 9th place in the table but have played less than every side in it. One place ahead of them is SC Thamesmead, who beat Lydd Town 4-1 and further position higher is Stansfeld who won by the same scoreline against Lewisham Borough.
