Our first game of 2018 was away to Kent Football United at Glenworth Sports Ground. I have to say these facilities are even worse than Holmesdale!!!!!!! Cold damp mildew ceilings, and to cap it off the dug outs were blown out of sight the night before. The management dreaded a downpour.
The team welcomed back David Adekoya from his 2017 stint at Sittingbourne, we also had Lewis Afflick back with the only absentee being Johnny Miller who has been selected for the first team. Our first team have had some really decent results recently hoping we can get some of that luck.
We didn’t really start well once again and conceded within the first minute ex Phoenix Sports striker Marcus Cassius latching onto a mistake. We immediately had a chance to reply but Billy Muckle, unfortunately, wasted his chance.
They scored 2 quick fire goals and we were 3-0 down after 17 minutes!!!! The game was end to end ,we had at least 8 clear chances but somehow only scoring 2 goals through Ibrahim & Ouani to liven up the game and giving us a good chance to get back into the tie the belief was back half time 3-2.
The second half was more of the same frantic football with Phoenix Sports on top within the first 4 minutes of the second half , Billy Muckle had a clear chance to equalise but somehow missed the target. That was our chance gone as they scored immediately after to put the game beyond us….. We missed a trick today as defensively Kent Football United were poor just like their sodden facilities.
